Use of Trademarks

Use of Mason’s trademarks on products must be in accordance with guidelines established by Creative Services, Intercollegiate Athletics and University Policy 1130. Student organizations must obtain design guidance and approval from the Office of Student Involvement prior to using a Mason trademark.

Inappropriate Use of Trademarks

Mason’s trademarks may not be altered in any way. They also may not be used in conjunction with the name or trademark(s) of any other entity without prior written permission of that entity and the University.

No one other than George Mason University may claim copyright or trademark rights or seek to register any design that uses George Mason University’s trademarks.

All uses of Mason’s trademarks on products will incorporate the appropriate trademark designation symbols (i.e. ® or ™), unless otherwise approved by Trademark Licensing.

Licensed Vendors

All products bearing Mason’s trademarks must be purchased from licensed companies. Please note that not all eVA vendors are licensed to manufacture products bearing Mason’s trademarks.It is important to use licensed companies when ordering products. This ensures the product created meets the University’s brand and quality standards.

There are approximately 145 companies officially licensed by George Mason University through our agent (IMGCL). About 50 of these companies are licensed as Internal Campus Suppliers or maintain a Restricted Distribution Channel, allowing them to sell product to Mason directly.

All licensees must obtain advance approval from Trademark Licensing to produce new designs. Allow ample approval time to prevent any confusion or delays with your orders.

Purchasing Estimates

Whenever your product order reaches the threshold requiring additional vendor estimates, please remember that additional estimates must come from other Mason licensed vendors.

Vendor Waiver

If your desired product is not provided by one of our licensees, a letter granting a non-licensed vendor authorization to use a specific trademark on a specific product order is required.

Any and all use of the names, numbers, and/or images of Mason student athletes must comply with University policies and NCAA regulations. Questions should be directed to Trademark Licensing, who will consult with Mason Athletics.

Mason Korea

Use of Trademarks

The logo depicted below is the campus primary logo. This logo and other Mason trademarks may be used on products in accordance with guidelines established by Creative Services and University Policy 1130. Mason departments, colleges, organizations, and other internal departments in South Korea may not assign rights or otherwise grant permission to any other entity for use of Mason’s trademarks for any purpose without prior review and approval by Auxiliary Enterprises, Creative Services and/or University Counsel.

 

Steps to Use Mason Trademarks in South Korea

  • Step One: Create Artwork

Create artwork using an institutional or trade name per brand identity guide.

  • Step Two: Obtain Artwork Approval

Obtain artwork approval from Creative Services (if necessary).

  • Step Three: Find a Vendor

Find a reputable vendor to produce merchandise.

  • Step Four: Get Artwork Proof

Have vendor provide artwork proof for your approval.

  • Step Five: Forward Artwork to Trademark Licensing for Approval

Forward artwork proof to Trademark Licensing for review and approval.

  • Step Six: Place Merchandise Order

Authorize merchandise order.

The University Seal may be used on merchandise on a case-by-case basis, but requires review and approval from Trademark Licensing.

Custom Ink Orders

Mason Korea departments, organizations, and individuals may purchase Mason branded gear online.  Groups or individuals at Mason Korea may go here, design products (under the Design Lab) and search for George Mason logos under the ADD Artwork tab. However, when it comes time to finalize and pay for the order, contact Devon McTavish at Custom Ink via email.  He serves as the Mason Korea Account Manager.
